Cindy’s World: What Are We Doing Now?

(Excerpted from Cindy’s blog)

Over the last week or so we have been tramping the countryside! Today we did a beach walk along a few bays a little north of us. Part of the walk went along cliffs that had a paved trail. The trail was in front of the homes built up on the cliffs. Great views. Another part of the walk was along a pipeline covered with cement along the beach. It really looked like stone. You could walk quite a distance.

Sunday we drove to a place where you can ride these little trams to one of the dams that supplies water to Auckland (the “Watercare Rain Forest Express” tram, that was used to build the Upper Nihotupu Dam). The train goes thru tunnels that were hand dug. They are not very big so the train is not very big. But the four of us managed to squeeze into a compartment and be fairly comfortable, except my neck was a little stiff by the end. One side of the train is open and the other has windows that slant in. So the person sitting on the window side has to bend their head a bit, especially when you are sitting with 4 adult sized persons! But the afternoon went by rather quickly, visiting the dam and seeing glow worms. The glow worms are scattered along the roof of the cave and look rather like constellations in the darkness. Neat!

We found a good Korean restaurant that Max really likes. So we will eat there again. It is just in Milford so very close by.

We also spent New Year’s Eve visiting our neighbor’s. It was a very relaxing evening with them, snacking and chatting!

Sarah brought the season of a tv series called Firefly. We have really enjoyed watching it and are going to look for the movie based on the series that came out last fall.

So that is what we have been up to lately! Tomorrow it is supposed to rain so we will either have a down day or go the aquarium. Then Thursday we may get our long-awaited container! Fingers crossed….
